You can give custom names to the pins and states. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This way, for example you could rig a pin to a door or cat flap, showing you whenever it&#8217;s being opened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"733\" height=\"135\" src=\"https:\/\/picockpit.com\/raspberry-pi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/image-6.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-827\" style=\"width:475px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/picockpit.com\/raspberry-pi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/image-6.png 733w, https:\/\/picockpit.com\/raspberry-pi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/image-6-300x55.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 733px) 100vw, 733px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The default pull drop down allows you to choose which state pins should have applied to them electrically. That is, if the pin does not have an external input, or the external input is floating, the pin will be tied to a certain state internally in the SoC. If this sounds too complex, don&#8217;t worry &#8211; it basically means that the pin will be high, unless you ground it externally, or it will be low, unless it&#8217;s connected to 3V3.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Warning: Never connect pins directly to 3V3. Note that this is NOT the physical number of the pin. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Name:<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Give the pin a custom name. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Pull &amp; Debounce:<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here you can choose the pull &#8211; either using the default pull or set a standard pull.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Debounce allows you to choose a protective time during which the pin&#8217;s state is not updated (set this to 0 to turn off the debounce feature). This is useful, as mechanical switches will &#8220;bounce&#8221; between states until settling down when you push them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>State Names:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Per Default low and high are the state names which will be shown in PiCockpit. You can set this to anything you like (which better describes the actual state, e.g. &#8220;cat door open&#8221;)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">GPIO Output (On\/Off)<\/h2>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"730\" height=\"677\" src=\"https:\/\/picockpit.com\/raspberry-pi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/image-7.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-831\" style=\"width:475px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/picockpit.com\/raspberry-pi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/image-7.png 730w, https:\/\/picockpit.com\/raspberry-pi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/image-7-300x278.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 730px) 100vw, 730px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>GPIO Output On\/Off allows you to switch Pins on and off. (Note that a Pin can&#8217;t be used as an input and output at the same time). Please use a lookup to determine which physical pin this is<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Name: a custom name you can set, defaults to the BCM pin ID<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>State names: custom names you can set for the states (low \/ high are the default names)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">GPIO Output (Software PWM)<\/h2>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"719\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/picockpit.com\/raspberry-pi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/image-9.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-833\" style=\"width:475px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/picockpit.com\/raspberry-pi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/image-9.png 719w, https:\/\/picockpit.com\/raspberry-pi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/image-9-300x246.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 719px) 100vw, 719px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In GPIO Output (Software PWM), you can use PiCockpit&#8217;s web interface to dim LEDs, for example. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The slider allows you to set a PWM duty cycle (44 % in the screenshot example), which will determine the brightness of the LED. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The configure dialog gives you some advanced options:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>BCM Pin ID: see above, the BCM Id of the pin being addressed<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Name: a custom name you can set<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Frequency: the frequency the PWM should run at. You can also choose between Hz, kHz and MHz<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>We recommend a minimum of 60 Hz to ensure that you can dim the pin without the flickering being annoying to human beings. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">I2C<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>NEW: starting with v2.1 of PiCockpit, you can turn I2C on and off using the PiCockpit web interface. The webinterface will warn you, if I2C is being used and it can&#8217;t be switched off. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"726\" height=\"147\" src=\"https:\/\/picockpit.com\/raspberry-pi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/image-10.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-834\" style=\"width:475px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/picockpit.com\/raspberry-pi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/image-10.png 726w, https:\/\/picockpit.com\/raspberry-pi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/image-10-300x61.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 726px) 100vw, 726px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Note: The BME688 AirQuality App and CO2 Sensor App both use I2C. They will try to enable it automatically for you.
