RetroPie does not officially support the Raspberry Pi Zero 2.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"magicmirror\u00b2-on-the-pi-zero-2\">MagicMirror\u00b2 on the Pi Zero 2<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-embed-handler wp-block-embed-embed-handler wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" hcb-fetch-image-from=\"https:\/\/youtube.com\/watch?v=xoh6VZHyznY\" title=\"Smart Mirror Update Local Transport Module\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/xoh6VZHyznY?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MagicMirror\u00b2 is the open-source software that allows you to display information on a mirror.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can display alerts, calendars, clocks, compliments, current weather, news, weather information and more via third-party modules.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Pi Zero 2 W is particularly suited for this project because it\u2019s small and uses little power, which means that it can run off your display\u2019s USB port or even a battery. This is the advantage it has over running it with a power-hungry Pi 4 or other regular-sized boards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Pi Zero 2 W is also better suited than the original Pi Zero because the MagicMirror runs on Electron, which uses the Chromium rendering engine and the Node.js runtime. In other words, MagicMirror is a web app that runs in a browser with special privileges to your computer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chromium runs poorly on the Pi Zero 2, but a little trick has cut down my load times by a third. If no, you will have to manually start MagicMirror every time you boot.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Disable the screen saver?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The following instructions assumes you said yes to both.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Alternatively, if you have concerns about running a script, you can do it in <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.magicmirror.builders\/getting-started\/installation.html#manual-installation\" rel=\"nofollow\">six steps as spelled out in the official docs<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"configuring-magicmirror\">Configuring MagicMirror<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The first time I ran MagicMirror, it did not display information that was relevant to me. It displayed American holidays and news from The New York Times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here\u2019s how to change it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Exit MagicMirror (CTRL+Q)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stop MagicMirror from popping up again by running <strong>pm2 stop MagicMirror<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Go to <strong>\/home\/pi\/MagicMirror\/config<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Edit <strong>config.js<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Within this file, you can edit the modules\u2019 parameters. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"360\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/picockpit.com\/raspberry-pi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/motioneyeos-3-edited.png\" alt=\"weather motioneyeos\" class=\"wp-image-1653\" style=\"width:475px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/picockpit.com\/raspberry-pi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/motioneyeos-3-edited.png 360w, https:\/\/picockpit.com\/raspberry-pi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/motioneyeos-3-edited-300x300.png 300w, https:\/\/picockpit.com\/raspberry-pi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/motioneyeos-3-edited-150x150.png 150w, https:\/\/picockpit.com\/raspberry-pi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/motioneyeos-3-edited-12x12.png 12w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 360px) 100vw, 360px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example, to edit the weather, I modified the parameters within the key-value pair <strong>module: \u201cweather\u201d<\/strong> and,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Type in your location (e.g. Leipzig, Germany or Amsterdam, Netherlands or Paris, France)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Alternatively, use a locationID.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enter your API key (sign up for an openweathermap.org account then <a href=\"https:\/\/home.openweathermap.org\/api_keys\" rel=\"nofollow\">go here to get an API key.<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Save the file. Run MagicMirror. If it\u2019s still stuck on \u201cLoading\u201d, restarting your Pi might help.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.magicmirror.builders\/modules\/introduction.html\" rel=\"nofollow\">See the documentation<\/a> for further instructions on all the other modules.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you are done, you can restart MagicMirror by rebooting (if you enabled auto restart) or you can open a Terminal and run <strong>pm2 start MagicMirror.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I rebooted\u2026 and found out that the auto restart feature doesn\u2019t work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"magicmirror-doesn-t-auto-restart-with-pm2\">MagicMirror doesn\u2019t auto restart with pm2<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This left me on a scramble to find a solution.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And luckily I found one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For some reason, the script that comes bundled with the installer above doesn\u2019t work. However, there\u2019s a separate script on the script writer\u2019s Github specifically to run pm2\u2019s autostart function.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I ran this and MagicMirror started on boot:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>bash -c &#8220;$(curl -sL https:\/\/raw.githubusercontent.com\/sdetweil\/MagicMirror_scripts\/master\/fixuppm2.sh)&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"drones\">Drones<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Although the following were based on the original Pi Zero, having more power available from the new Pi Zero 2 allows you more room for customization. For example, you could add a functionality to record videos or to play music.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"zerobot-a-land-roaming-3d-printed-robot\">ZeroBot: a land-roaming 3D-printed robot<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-embed-handler wp-block-embed-embed-handler wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" hcb-fetch-image-from=\"https:\/\/youtube.com\/watch?v=16rxNzQvfYY\" title=\"ZeroBot - Raspberry Pi Zero FPV Robot\" width=\"500\" href=\"https:\/\/hackaday.io\/project\/25092-zerobot-raspberry-pi-zero-fpv-robot\">consider buildi<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/hackaday.io\/project\/25092-zerobot-raspberry-pi-zero-fpv-robot\" rel=\"nofollow\">n<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/hackaday.io\/project\/25092-zerobot-raspberry-pi-zero-fpv-robot\">g the ZeroBot<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ZeroBot is based on the Raspberry Pi Zero W form factor, so the 3D printed components will fit on the newer Zero 2 W.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The robot uses cheap and easy to find components and can be controlled by any computer or smartphone via a web browser.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"parts-needed\">Parts needed<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2x ICR18650 lithium cell printer just for this project and I get it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What I also found is that in larger cities, there are collaborative maker spaces which might have a 3D printer that you can Zero 2 not officially supported, I managed to get it running.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And I was very impressed by the results. If playing on the PC would be full marks, then Steam Link would get 4\/5 points on the Raspberry Pi Zero 2.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"pros-cons-of-using-pi-zero-2-with-steam-link\">Pros &amp; Cons of using Pi Zero 2 with Steam Link<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"pros\">Pros<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W is very small and easy to hide behind your TV or display, keeping things neat and clean.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You might also be able to power your Pi Zero 2 with the USB on your TV, reducing the need for another long cable to a power outlet. If you aren&#8217;t sure if your device&#8217;s USB can support the Raspberry Pi, <a href=\"https:\/\/picockpit.com\/raspberry-pi\/pidoctor-raspberry-pi-system-health-monitor\/\">PiCockpit&#8217;s PiDoctor module can help you diagnose it.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And the Pi Zero 2 W is cheap. In order to fix this, go to the top left menu (Raspberry Pi logo), then go to <strong>Preferences -&gt; Raspberry Pi Configuration -&gt; Performance -&gt; GPU Memory<\/strong> and set it to 128MB.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then, either use the desktop icon or type <strong>steamlink<\/strong> into Terminal to launch Steam Link.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Steam Link will scan your network and find a computer with Steam on it. It will then ask you to enter a verification code on the computer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then it will test your network connection.
