Want to do it without being wasteful? This is the project that will inspire you to master computers on a super low-level, all while being a good environmentalist. You can do it all with this recycled single-board computer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This wonderfully innovative project comes from Anders Nielsen, who calls it the &#8220;65uino&#8221;. Anders has posted the project over on <a href=\"https:\/\/hackaday.io\/project\/190260-65uino\">Hackaday<\/a> and we think that it undoubtedly qualifies as a Paragon Project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The main idea is to build a single-board computer out of an Arduino and old integrated circuits. Best of all, Anders has made this project open-source, so you can build it and customize it as you see fit!<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/picockpit.com\/raspberry-pi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Screenshot-from-2023-09-12-18-14-02-1024x604.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5268\" style=\"width:546px;height:304px\" width=\"546\" height=\"304\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Credit: <a href=\"https:\/\/hackaday.io\/project\/190260-65uino\">Anders Nielsen<\/a>.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Hardware<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Anders calls it the 65uino, because it&#8217;s pin-compatible with <a href=\"https:\/\/buyzero.de\/products\/arduino-uno-rev3?_pos=1&amp;_sid=49a2dc60f&amp;_ss=r\">the Arduino Uno<\/a>. And, indeed, the shape is clearly similar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But Anders has created this customized printed circuit board and you can find the files on <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/AndersBNielsen\/65uino\/blob\/main\/hardware\/65uinoGerbersR0.zip\">the GitHub page<\/a> and then send off to a PCB house, like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcbway.com\/\">PCBWay<\/a>. Alternatively, you could still just construct this on a breadboard, although that&#8217;ll only really serve as a temporary solution. But it would get the job done!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What&#8217;s great about it&#8217;s pin-compatibility with the Arduino Uno is that all the shields, modules, and adapters for the Arduino also will work with the 65uino.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The main idea is that the computer runs on the I2C bus, which only needs power, ground, sda (serial data), and scl (serial clock). If you&#8217;re interested in learning more about I2C, you can read our article on it here:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/picockpit.com\/raspberry-pi\/i2c-the-inter-integrated-circuit-bus\/\">I2C &#8211; the Inter-Integrated Circuit Bus<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>But suffice it to say that I2C<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anyway, this project revolves around 6 essential components: a 6507 microprocessor, a 28C16 EEPROM, a 6532 RAM-I\/O-Timer, an LM1117 regulator, an MIC5504-3.3YM5 regulator, and a 74HC04 inverter integrated circuit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The goal is to recycle, so get creative in where you find these and then comment below where you got yours!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aside from those essential components, Anders uses a host of capacitors, resistors, and oscillators. This is the project that will help you master Assembly!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you follow Anders build to the T, then you also will have an LED on the printed circuit board that you can blink using 6502 Assembly.
