Then this is the project for you! It&#8217;s an entire irrigation platform that you can control with your phone, tablet, or laptop! Using a Raspberry Pi, your garden comes wholly under your control.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This one comes from Dan-in-CA on GitHub. You can find the GitHub repository <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/Dan-in-CA\/SIP\">here<\/a>. And, best of all, it&#8217;s got <a href=\"https:\/\/nosack.com\/sipforum\/index.php\">a really vibrant community<\/a> contributing to it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Hardware<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This project centers on a <a href=\"https:\/\/buyzero.de\/collections\/raspberry-pi\">Raspberry Pi<\/a>. You really could use any Pi that has internet access, including <a href=\"https:\/\/buyzero.de\/collections\/raspberry-pi\/products\/raspberry-pi-zero-w\">Raspberry Pi Zero<\/a>, as you can see in the photo above.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although, I don&#8217;t think you&#8217;d be able to use this setup with a <a href=\"https:\/\/buyzero.de\/products\/raspberry-pi-pico-w-h-konfigurator-pico-pico-w-pico-h-pico-wh?_pos=1&amp;_sid=762d8fc1f&amp;_ss=r&amp;variant=43536399696139\">Pico W<\/a>. I&#8217;d be thrilled to be proven wrong!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Indeed, this might be a better project for a <a href=\"https:\/\/buyzero.de\/collections\/boards-kits\/products\/raspberry-pi-3b-plus\">Raspberry Pi 3<\/a> over a <a href=\"https:\/\/buyzero.de\/products\/raspberry-pi-4b?_pos=3&amp;_sid=1a046b912&amp;_ss=r&amp;variant=40326653018292\">Raspberry 4<\/a>, for example, because <a href=\"https:\/\/picockpit.com\/raspberry-pi\/everything-you-need-to-know-about-the-raspberry-pi-4\/\">the Raspberry Pi 4 might run too hot<\/a> depending on your garden setup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Raspberry Pi is what will run SIP directly. From there, you&#8217;ll want to hook it up to a 4, 6, or 8 channel relay board. The relay board <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As one person on the SIP forums wrote, &#8220;I used the first 6 relays for the 6 existing stations in my existing irrigation configuration. Additionally, there&#8217;s a DC-DC step down converter to convert the output to a lower voltage for the Raspberry Pi and the relay board.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Software<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the software side, SIP essentially runs a local website that you can use to monitor and control your garden. Then you&#8217;ll need to install Git and clone the GitHub repository onto the Raspberry Pi. Then you run the sip.py file in the repository and you&#8217;re good to go!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can find detailed instructions on the installation <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/Dan-in-CA\/SIP\/wiki\/install_steps\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Conclusion<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You&#8217;re never going to have ask your neighbors again to water your plants while you&#8217;re out of town!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I&#8217;ve got to give a huge shout out to Dan for putting this project together, uploading it for everyone, and really building a global community around the Sustainable Irrigation Platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And, once you&#8217;ve got this all up, you can also join <a href=\"https:\/\/nosack.com\/sipforum\/index.php\">the SIP forums<\/a> and stay up-to-date with the community!
