Then this is the ideal project for you! It&#8217;s a straightforward and simple air quality monitor with a Raspberry Pi Pico!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This great little project was put together by Yakroo and shared on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hackster.io\/yakroo\/air-quality-monitor-pico-6d30be\">hackster.io<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before I tell you all about it though, I do want to mention that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.picockpit.com\">we at PiCockpit actually have a free air quality monitoring app<\/a>. And just like with Yakroo&#8217;s project, you can use our PiCockpit app on a Pico W.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But more on that later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For now, I want to focus on Yakroo&#8217;s very cool air monitoring app! On the project page, Yakroo explains that the inspiration came from a health concern. One of these components is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcbway.com\/project\/shareproject\/Air_Quality_Monitor_raspberry_PICO_beff7c3a.html\">a custom PCB that Yakroo created specifically for this project<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another key component is, of course, a <a href=\"https:\/\/buyzero.de\/products\/raspberry-pi-pico-w-h-konfigurator-pico-pico-w-pico-h-pico-wh?_pos=1&amp;_sid=b8228f2ed&amp;_ss=r&amp;variant=43536399696139\">Raspberry Pi Pico<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You&#8217;ll also need an air sensor. Yakroo put this Pico air quality monitor together with a PMS7003. A PMS7003 is a breakout board that measures particulate matter in the air. It&#8217;s the newer generation of the <a href=\"https:\/\/buyzero.de\/products\/particulate-matter-sensor-breakout-fur-pms5003\">PMS5003<\/a> breakout board.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then Yakroo has added an LED strip with 8 lights to the top of the setup. The idea is that the LEDs can give extra visual feedback. So the LEDs turn red when the air quality is poor and blue when the air quality is good.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project page suggests using an RGB WS2812 LED strip, but you could really use any. You could go with, for instance, an <a href=\"https:\/\/buyzero.de\/products\/adafruit-1-9-320x170-color-ips-tft-display-st7789\">Adafruit ST7789<\/a>. Really, any TFT LCD would work with this project though.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Software<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When it comes to software, this project is really straightforward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yakroo has written the software in MicroPython (although one of Yakroo&#8217;s videos says CircuitPython) and has shared the code on GitHub, which you can access <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/YakrooThai\/Air-Quality-Monitor\/blob\/main\/pm25_simUart.py\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you take a look at the code (it&#8217;s not very long), you&#8217;ll quickly see how it works. It&#8217;s easy to put together and it&#8217;s easy to customize.
